How to convert biomass wastes to charcoal briquettes

It is well known that all kinds of biomass materials can be used for making charcoal briquettes, such as wood logs, wood sawdust, rice husk, coconut shell, palm kernel shell, stalks, etc. As for different raw materials, the suitable process is different, and the properties of resulting charcoal briquettes will also be different. 1. Briquetting - Carbonizing

As for the raw materials, such as sawdust, cotton stalks, etc, which are small pieces or with loose density. If carbonizing them directly, the resulting bicharcoal briquettes will not have good properties, for example, the ratio of biomass to charcoal is low, more ash will be produced. Therefore, it is better to convert these raw materials into biomass briquette firstly, to improve its density. Then carbonize biomass briquette into biomass charcoal briquettes. The resulting charcoal briquettes will have better properties in this way, for example, the ratio of biomass to charcoal briquettes is high, the resulting biomass charcoal briquettes will be with good density and high carbon content, can burn for longer time, and low ash content after burning. Those properties are just the standards to distinguish high-quality biomass charcoal briquettes and low-quality biomass charcoal briquettes.

2. Carbonizing - Briquetting

As for the raw materials, such as fruit trees, branches, coconut shell, etc, which are very hard and with good density. We suggest to carbonize the fruit trees, branches and coconut shell, directly, the good-quality charcoal briquettes can be produced. And then, further processing steps can be done. For example, crushing lump charcoal into charcoal powder, mixing charcoal powder with binders and water, then making all kinds of charcoal briquettes with different shapes and sizes, such as hexagonal charcoal briquettes for BBQ, cube or round tablets for shisha, etc.
